Purchased by NCC to reach the Navy Yard and surrounding community, the historic Romanesque Revival “big blue castle” is currently being adapted from a rail car barn into a theater, child daycare center, passageway, retail, and work space. The concept of the passageway not only serves as the literal through-connection to reach the community, but also provides a way to reconnect the historic building’s diverse programmatic elements while serving as a space for visitors to recharge.
